Voter Registration
How to Register
Wisconsin requires 28 days to establish residency at a new address. Temporary absence does not affect residency. Time spent away from your residence still counts toward the 28-day residency requirement as long as you intend to return. When registering, you must present Proof of Residence, a document showing your current name at your current address. You cannot register to vote at a post office box. View acceptable forms of Proof of Residence by clicking here How to Register How to Register How to Register.
Registration Methods
To register to vote, you have several options. Choose the method that works best for you:
Online Registration
You may register to vote online at the MyVote Wisconsin website if you have a valid, unexpired Wisconsin driver license or Wisconsin ID. Your address on file with the DMV must match the address where you are registering to vote. If your address is outdated, update it on the DMV website before registering at MyVote Wisconsin.
In-Person Registration
During open registration, City of New Berlin residents may register to vote in the City Clerk's Office during normal business hours.
Mail Registration (Available up to 20 days before an election)
Voter registration forms are available on the Wisconsin Elections Commission website in English, Spanish, and Hmong. To register by mail, download and print the application. Mail the completed form to the City Clerk's Office. The form must be postmarked at least 20 days before the election. Remember to include Proof of Residence with your application.

Military Voters
Members of the military are not required to register to vote but must complete forms to vote absentee. Military and overseas voters may download their absentee ballots online. For more information, learn how to vote absentee.
Overseas Voters
Voters who have moved overseas with no intent to return may continue voting for federal offices from their last Wisconsin address. They can register and request absentee ballots using the Federal Postcard Application. Overseas voters do not need to provide proof of residence with their registration.
Voters Experiencing Homelessness
Voters experiencing homelessness may register to vote by indicating a location they return to regularly on the registration form. They can also use a letter from a social service agency as proof of residence.
Felony Convictions
An individual convicted of a felony may register to vote once they have completed all terms of their sentence, including probation or parole.
Register During Closed Registration
Once registration closes at 5:00 p.m. on the 20th day before an election, you may only register at the City Clerk's Office during absentee voting hours. Proof of address is required. Registration is available until the close of absentee voting at City Hall on the Friday before the election.
If you're registering at the polls on Election Day, make sure to bring your proof of residence and photo ID to vote.
