Election Official Application

Thank you for your interest in serving as an election official!

We’re fortunate in New Berlin to have a team of dedicated election workers and many community members eager to step up and fulfill this vital civic duty.

The next election cycle (2026–2027) is approaching, and the application period will open soon. Before applying, please take a few minutes to watch our SERVE WITH PURPOSE: Become an Election Official video featured on this page. The video highlights the important responsibilities of election officials, the level of commitment required, and our transition to a more digital process.

In the City of New Berlin, the role of an Election Inspector has evolved. While many municipalities still rely on paper poll books, we’ve advanced to electronic poll books (Badger Books) and iPads to improve efficiency, accuracy, and the voter experience on Election Day. Because of this, it’s important that all members of our election team feel comfortable using iPads and basic computer functions. Training is provided, but a willingness to learn and adapt is key.

Election Official Responsibilities

Election Inspectors conduct important duties at one of our seven polling places. Responsibilities may include:

  • Greeting and assisting voters
  • Registering voters on Election Day
  • Checking voters in using an electronic poll book
  • Issuing ballots
  • Assisting voters
  • Processing absentee ballots
  • Monitoring voting equipment
  • Completing required documentation

Serving as an election official is about more than managing ballots—it’s about creating a positive, welcoming, and efficient experience for every voter. Election officials may choose to be paid or volunteer. Either way, your dedication ensures fairness and integrity in our elections.
